Penny Benge retains the Higher Handicap Trophy

The Dulwich Higher Handicap Trophy was held on Sat 13th August with 8 players divided into 2 groups of 4.

Phillip Battly and Chris Roseberg emerged at the top of Group One to qualify for the semi finals.

Group Two was a tight battle between Tim Lomas, Pemnny Benge & Sue Freathy all ending up with 2 wins and each beating the other in a who beat who calculation. Tim emerged at the top with 20 hoops, Penny in second with 19 and Sue just missing out with 18 hoops.

In the first Semi final Chris met Tim with 3 bisques, after taking an early lead she was starting to be drawn back and forced to use bisques until the 9th hoop with Tim 5-3 down but confident with 2 balls close in front of the hoop when Chris ran the hoop from the boundary. After that it was a tight fight for the 10th which Chris took to win 7-3.

The second Semi final was again a tight fight with Penny and Phillip fighting hoop for hoop until Penny ran the 12th and took her single bisque to gain first ball on the 13th hoop. After a good approach from Penny, Phillip was unable to stop her running the hoop to meet Chris in the final.

The final proceeded with both players seemingly suffering from colour blindness as they set up to play the wrong one of their balls on multiple occasions, mutterings that they were making sure the audience were payimg attention were heard from both players until the 5th when they seemed to get their acts together. Penny managing to overcome the two bisques Chris held to retain her trophy.

Overall a pleasant and relaxed tournament with 7 of the 8 players remainiong to cheer on the finalists.
