The Burbage singles was played as two blocks of 6, with a winner and runner
up from each block going through to a semi final. Tim Lomas and David Whyte
finished top of their blocks with Simon and Guy runners up. In a close
fought semi final, David ran bold hoops and cleared with great effect to
take his place in the final by beating Simon 7-6. Guy's mastery of the long
clearance gave him the edge over a very in form Tim to set up the final. The
format was a single 19 point game which was very even at 7 all when David
jawsed his ball in hoop 15 setting up a potentail 9-7 lead but missed a
cleance to give Guy one of his characteristic flamboyant jumps and the final
score was 10-8 to Guy who has the honour of polsihing the huge Burbage bowl
for a year!

The doubles was played as an all-play-all with seven rounds. Often a clear leader emerges by round four or five, but thankfully, there was all to play for until the very last round which was, in effect, a final between David and Penny, and the Whytes. The game ebbed and flowed until hoop 11 when Penny suffered a severe attack of Hooping cough and missed two opportunities to come back from 6-4 down with a bisque in hand. The honour was left to Lynn to run 11 and complete a well earned win for her and David, who had played at a very high standard on both days.
